  9.  AB    Worldwide, the number of people infected with HIV or ill with AIDS
  10.        continues to increase, as does the impact of the epidemic on families,
  11.        communities and nations. Epidemiological modelling indicates growing
  12.        endemicity of HIV infection in areas where the epidemic is mature, such
  13.        as parts of sub-Saharan Africa and western Europe, and incipient or
  14.        explosive expansion in others, such as Asia. The implications for action
  15.        are correspondingly different, though in all parts of the world a prime
  16.        focus must be on giving young people the information, skills and
  17.        services they need to protect themselves. In Asia, according to a WHO
  18.        study, prevention is likely to be effective, as well as readily
  19.        affordable, in curbing the rapid expansion of the epidemic.
